There are many things that help make a picture spectacular, but the most important is for the picture to be in sharp focus. Just a little blur makes a picture second rate, no matter how good the subject.

Photographers have somewhat varying opinions on what constitutes a tack sharp picture, but generally, a tack sharp photograph has good, clean lines. The picture will have clear definition, instead of being blurred.

There are several things you can do to increase your chances of getting that coveted tack sharp picture. Hand-Held Digital Photography Tips

If you’re hand-holding your camera, brace your arms against your sides to help steady the camera.Anti-shake technology such as Vibration Reduction (VR) or Image Stabilzation (IS) lens should be turned on if available.

You can also lean against a wall or tree or whatever sturdy object that’s handy, and help keep yourself and your camera steady. Another way is to lean or lay your camera on some nearby sturdy object to help steady the camera. Steadying your camera by hooking the strap under your elbow and wrapping the rest around your forearm will also help stabilize the camera and hold it steady in your hand.

Getting those tack sharp photos while hand-holding your camera can be difficult, so to increase your chances of getting that perfect shot, use the burst or continuous shooting mode on your camera to take several shots at once. With several pictures taken in quick sequence, there’s a greater chance at least one will be in sharp focus.

Tripods For Better Focus

There’s no getting around the fact that it’s easier to get a tack sharp photo using a tripod. You just can’t hold the camera as steady as a tripod will. With a tripod, like other photography equipment, you get what you pay for. A cheap tripod will help, but won’t hold your camera rock steady like a more expensive tripod will.Buying the best tripod you can reasonably afford gets the best results.

The more expensive tripods don’t come with the head attached. This had to be bought separately, but that way you get to choose what you want.A quality ballhead on your tripod will keep you camera from sliding to one side and blurring the photo.

If you’re somewhere that carrying a tripod just won’t work, beanbags make a nice cushion for cameras in these settings. A beanbag can help in positioning the camera to get the right angle on the subject, then hold the camera steady so you get a sharp shot.

To improve your chances of a tack sharp photo even more, use a cable release instead of pressing the shutter. The movement from pressing the shutter may not seem like much, but it shakes the camera enough to prevent getting a tack sharp picture.

If you don’t have a cable release, the self timer will also work. This allows you to press the shutter, but gives the camera time to stabilize before taking the picture.

More Advanced Digital Photography Secrets For Sharp Shots

If you have a digital SLR camera, there are even more ways to make sure your camera stays steady while taking pictures.

The first is to use mirror lock-up.This keeps the camera locked in the up position until after the picture is taken. That limits movement inside the camera. This means to take a picture, you will have to press the shutter release button twice on your remote or cable release (you’re not going to all this trouble and pressing the shutter release on the camera are you?). The first press lifts the mirror and the second press actually takes the picture.

The second method is to turn off the Vibration Reduction or Image Stabilization. That may sound counter productive, but when you’ve stabilized your camera with a tripod and other methods, the vibration reduction keeps looking for shakes/movements. If the camera isn’t moving, then the vibration reduction can actually cause shaking while looking for movement. A good rule to follow is to keep these turned off when using a tripod, and only use them when you’re hand-holding the camera.

One last way to increase the sharpness of your pictures is to have good glass. It makes a big difference which lens you use.You get what you pay for. A quality lens with good glass is expensive, but it’s worth it.Think of it as an investment in great pictures.

Use as many methods as you can to steady your camera, and you’ll have a much better chance of getting those lovely tack sharp photographs.

Canon is famous across the continent for information systems and imaging equipment. Their many products include copiers, printers, lenses, camcorders, semiconductors, and of course Canon digital cameras.

The PowerShot SX110 IS is the latest high end Canon camera. This is a 10.0 mega pixel Canon digital camera that features a 12x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom. This baby is furnished with Optical Image Stabilizer (that is what the IS in SX IS stands for) that eliminates camera shakes for people who have shaky hands or for taking camera shots. The UD lens provides amazing color accuracy throughout the digital camera optical zoom area.

As with many digital cameras nowadays, the SX100 can record moving pictures. Such is the same with others in the same family like the Canon Powershot digital cameras. Now with another first, the SX110 allows you to record moving pictures, and there no use for missing a perfect image incorporated with that moving picture. With the Movie Snap feature, just snap away when you see that perfect image, and it will be saved in your canon digital camera along with the recorded video.

This canon digital camera is also equipped with the DIGIC II Image processor that is designed to increase processing speed and image quality. It instantly says that with the DIGIC II, your canon digital camera has faster start-up time, playback and auto focus while giving your images the absolute brilliance.

The SX110 also support USB 2.0 Hi-speed standard, so you will always have the easiest time transferring your files to and from your computer. With the USB 2.0, you can take advantage of your super hi-speed SD card.

This canon digital camera is also supplied with a 1.8 inch LCD power saving and fold out screen that’s 115,000 pixel resolution. SX100 shoots at 30 frames per second; this shooting rate can be reduced when taking pictures in night display, to give you the brightness that you need when taking pictures.

On the other hand, the latest point and shoot canon digital camera is the PowerShot SD950.

The SD500 is the first 7.1 mega pixel Canon digital camera that prepares terrific pics and incredible details. It has a 3x optical zoom that enables close up shooting with a 37-111mm equivalent with a 35mm film camera. This is one of the new perpetual curve design for a canon digital camera that fits the hands perfectly.

With an ultra slim design, you’ll be amazed at the 2 inch LCD that makes playback a breeze.

It also comes with the same DIGIC II Image Processor that are found in other Canon cameras. Also it is USB 2.0 compatible and works with the same high-speed SD card.

Even better than most digital cameras out there, this gadget can shoot moving images to up to 60 frames per second- perfect for moving objects (especially in sports) and a 30 frames per second for shooting still images. Furnished with scene modes like portrait (blurs the background and focuses on your subject), foliage (perfect for foliage, greenery or blossoms), beach (sunny shots without the dark faces), underwater (reduced background scatter. Tip: you can always buy waterproof case for shooting underwater images), fireworks, night snapshot, kids and pets, indoor, snow and digital macro (larger than life images).

This canon digital camera even enables you to customize and correct as you shoot. With modes like lightening skin tones, positive film, darker skin tones and others, you can never go wrong with using a canon digital camera.

Fixing a problem when you’re out taking pictures is not always possible. There’s a better way however! Think about this, “The best defense is a good offense.” And the best offense here is to avoid problems with your digital camera in the first place.

That’s not to say things aren’t going to happen that are unexpected and unavoidable. However, many of the common problems photographers have when out shooting pictures are easily remedied with just a little prior planning.

There’s nothing worse than missing that great picture because the camera battery died. Keep extra batteries in your camera case to avoid this problem. It’s not an issue of whether you use regular or rechargeable batteries, it’s a matter of needing to always keep at least one spare.

Also, bear in mind that if you’re outside shooting in cold weather, your batteries will die a lot quicker. Since digital camera batteries die quickly at cold temperatures, it might be a smart idea to keep more than one spare on hand to keep your camera going.

Yes, batteries are expensive, but it’s worth the spending a little extra money to keep from beating your head against the wall because a dead battery made you miss that once in a lifetime shot.

A while back I went on vacation and took all my pictures on one card. I thought I had lots of wonderful pictures from my trip. I was sure the card had been filled with loads of great pictures. The scenery was indeed breathtaking, but what really took my breath away was when I tried to load the pictures onto my computer and got one of those dreaded “ERROR” messages. The files were corrupted as the memory card was bad. Since there was no way to access the pictures, I might as well have never taken them.

While it doesn’t happen often, cards can and do go bad. Keeping this from being a total disaster is why it’s smarter to have smaller cards than great big memory cards for your digital camera. Don’t buy a 2-GB card, for example, get a couple of 1-GB cards instead.

Yes, it’s cheaper to buy a huge bunch of gigabytes on one card. Using just one card means NO pictures if it goes bad.Be smart and don’t make that mistake. It’s better to have some of your pictures than not a one of your pictures. Remember, two cards are better than one.

The weather isn’t cooperating, or maybe you just like pictures of rain. Maybe you’re on a boat. Maybe you’re walking on the seashore. But you’re somewhere with a lot of moisture in the air. Picture taking is on your mind, but you don’t want to ruin your camera in the process. How can you keep your camera dry?

Well, you can buy protective gear to keep in your camera case for such times. If you only have the rare run in with a wet environment, you might not want to spend that much money on waterproof casing however.

For a make-do solution, carry a clear plastic bag in your camera case to keep water off your camera. Forgot to put a plastic bag in your camera case? If you’re traveling, try looking in your motel room for a clear disposable shower cap to use.

If planning ahead doesn’t save your sanity, it will at least improve your chances for good pictures with your digital camera.A dry camera, charged batteries and extra memory cards will at least give you the opportunity to try for good shots.

Isn’t that why you bought a digital camera in the first place?

Not so long ago there were many reasons for continuing to use cameras with film rather than to use digital cameras. There are still a few professional (and some amateur) photographers who cling on to their favorite film camera. With the ongoing advances in technology, digital cameras can now take as good, if not better photographs with a lot less hassle, and certainly less ongoing expense.

There are many types of photography, some of the main categories being portrait, landscape and action. These can then be sub-divided into other categories, and sometimes the camera you use will be different depending upon the type of photograph you are taking. A Digital Photography Tutorial can be found for all types.

Portrait photography can cover a wide number of subjects including family, wedding, child, maternity, formal etc. etc. The same equipment can generally be used for each, although accessories for backgrounds may sometimes need to be different. It is always advisable to ask your subjects what they require and where they would like their portraits taken before embarking on any detailed plans. This is especially important when preparing for family photography. Even a moderately inexpensive cameras can be sufficient. You can view your photographs as you take them and even when you are happy with the images you have taken you can still change them slightly with the use of a special programme on your computer. No more difficult developing, air brushing and printing!

Digital Landscape photography can be just as difficult. Although one thinks of this as just taking photographs of views, it can cover a variety of other techniques such as close-up photography of plants or other parts of the landscape. The use of filters can can still be used with digital cameras although they are not always necessary, since the required effect can often be obtained on the computer during processing and printing. Macro photography is much easier with a digital camera as it can be easier to stay in focus close up.

Action photography is by far the most difficult technique to learn, as it requires a good eye, fast reflexes and good judgment of speeds etc. A good , fast digital camera is required as the less expensive versions can often take a long time to start (a few seconds is to long for this sort of photography. You need immediate control.) Again, a digital camera is a lot more rewarding and inexpensive than cameras with film etc. It costs next to nothing to take photographs with a digital camera so that you can take many photographs of the same action and one at least should satisfy your image of what you want. {This would have been much more expensive with the cost of films and processing in past times}{Even though film has generally been cheap, it is still more expensive than digital}. What’s more, with digital photography you can instantly see what you have taken and dispose of those images which do not reach your expectations.

To improve your skills, digital photograhy tips can be found freely on the web

The year was 1933 when three Japanese got together and began a company known as Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory, which was later to become known as Canon and gain fame throughout the world. The first of the Canon cameras to hit the market was a prototype phantom known as ‘Kwanon’, which may not have been like the far more superior and costly German cameras, but were good enough to compete with those better known German cameras. Goro Yoshida and his two friends came out with the 35mm rangefinder cameras that were less costly and which were sold under the name ‘Kwanon’.

To make up for the lack of its own lenses for its cameras, the company tied up with Nippon Kogaku Kogyo, the forerunner of yet another famous Japanese camera company called Nikon. The first camera sold commercially by Canon was named the Hansa Canon, which hit the market in 1936 and was an instant success.

After the Second World War, the company was christened Canon and began the slow expansion, which saw the creation of many historic cameras including Serener, Canonet as well as EOS. The first of its many Canon digital cameras was released in 1996 and this was the Powershot 600. After incorporating many more advanced features, the next great Cannon digital camera that hit the market was in 1998. The EOS D2000 digital SLR followed by yet another innovative product known as XL1 and these Canon digital cameras all had excellent functionality and were very reliable. The XL1 proved its worth by being chosen by NASA as its official digital video camcorder.

Finding there was a need to provide customers with Canon digital cameras that were cost effective and which had advanced functionality, Canon came out with the EOS D60 in the year 2002 and the EOS 10D a year later. These models took the market by storm, with Canon digital cameras becoming the leaders in their field and then in 2003, another Canon digital camera the EOS Kiss Digital came out. Its success was a foregone conclusion and helped make Canon the foremost name in digital cameras.

Not content to sit back on its laurels, Canon digital cameras are continuously being priced lower and incorporating better technology to help retain their market position and they are the first choice of professional photographers, thanks to the wide range of Canon digital cameras available in the market today.

If you have been in the market for a new digital camera, or are in the market for purchasing your first digital camera, you have probably browsed through a number of consumer electronics shops to see what cameras are available. If you have done this regularly, then you probably have noticed the prevalence of Fuji cameras on the store’s shelves.

There is a strong reason for this. Fuji has produced some of the best cameras on the market for decades and this has led to tremendous brand loyalty among repeat customers. Of course, if you have never purchased a Fuji camera before there may be a few questions you have about the quality of the camera. Hopefully, some of these questions and concerns can be addressed here.

There are a multitude of Fuji Digital Cameras on the market and to attempt to describe each in depth would be somewhat impossible, given the relatively limited space available. A comprehensive examination of all of Fuji’s available digital cameras past and present would practically require an encyclopedia to chronicle. So, rather than attempt such a task, it would be much wiser to simply address the traits that are common among the bulk of the Fuji digital cameras on the market and most specifically, it is important to address the positives and the benefits associated with these top of the line cameras.

Fuji digital cameras are generally easy to operate and do not require specialized or fixed knowledge in order to operate. This makes the Fuji digital cameras accessible to pretty much all consumers and novices in particular, which are looking for a camera that aid in their ability to snap pictures of vacations, sporting events and other such activities. The cameras also come with zoom capabilities that are fairly decent, although “extra” zooming will require the use of a zoom attachment, which can be purchased as an accessory.

The prices of Fuji digital cameras can vary depending on the type of camera that the consumer is looking to purchase. If the consumer is looking for a basic camera, there is no need to shell out hundreds of dollars for a camera with a variety of features the consumer will probably not use. Instead, it would be best to purchase a less expensive and more basic camera that can perform simple common functions.

Purchasing Discount Digital Cameras

Purchasing digital cameras can be daunting as quality cameras can be expensive. People are naturally reluctant to spend a lot of money on purchases such as a quality digital camera. Many people assume that these digital cameras can not be found at a cheap and reasonable price, but there are a host of venues in which less expensive discount digital cameras can be purchased.

Probably one of the best ways to acquire discount digital cameras is to peruse what is available on online consumer services that provide the sale of overstocked items. For those not familiar with overstock items, what this refers to are older items that have been sitting on the store shelf and have not sold. This is not because the quality of the product is low, but often it is because too much stock has been sent to the store and the supply exceeded the demand.

Hence, there is a huge volume of “overstock” items that are not moving. Of course, in order to move them so as to have more shelf space, the store will drop the prices drastically. Since the number of people who visit the actual store are limited, the store may seek the services of an online overstock seller, who will gladly handle the sale for them. These online overstock services can provide excellent deals for the thrifty purchaser and savvy shopper.

The Quality of Overstock Discount Digital Cameras

It is not surprising that some consumers may have misgivings in regards to purchasing discount digital cameras through an overstock distributor, because the cameras are not “new.” Granted, while these digital cameras are not new releases, they are not used cameras, nor are they reconditioned (returned and repaired) cameras. They are factory sealed cameras that simply did not sell and are being offered at a discount. There really is not much difference between an overstock discount digital camera and a brand new one, but the price is significantly different.

Ultimately, there is always a risk when it comes to purchasing any product that is not brand new, but the risks associated with overstock sales are generally minimal. With most overstock online distributors, there are refund options available, that would not be offered on a site that offers used cameras.

Waterproof digital cameras are a great way to enhance any water-based vacation experience. Instead of relying on faulty waterproof disposable cameras for your underwater snorkeling or scuba forays, you can capture the colorful clarity of sea life far below the surface of the water. In addition, waterproof digital cameras are an awesome option for capturing water logged action shots of white water rafters, kayakers, fishermen and more.

The Sealife DC500 – A Diver’s Delight

While many waterproof digital cameras can handle up to thirty feet under water, the Sealife DC500 is the waterproof digital camera beauty for scuba divers, because it can be used up to a depth of two hundred feet! This camera has two basic shooting options underwater with the first being your typical underwater shot with a slight shutter lag and the shark mode captures your intended object of focus and then remembers the range, so that subsequent pictures don’t have lag time with the shutter speed.

The Sealife DC500 has a flash and expandability to other lenses as well as a 3x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom. Auto-focus is one feature, as is a 2-inch LCD display for viewing your pictures. At 5.0 mega pixels, this Sealife DC500 is among the worthy waterproof digital cameras on the market today.

AToug Waterproof Digital Camera

The Olympus Stylus 770SW is perhaps the toughest waterproof digital camera known to man and it is crush-proof and freeze-proof! Among the many waterproof digital cameras on the market, the Olympus Stylus 770SW sounds like it can handle anything that comes its way.

You can expect 7.1 mega pixels, which is a great resolution for waterproof digital cameras and a 2.5-inch LCD display. This camera is waterproof up to a little over thirty feet underwater, shockproof up to five feet and it can also take up to two hundred twenty pounds of crushing force. Add almost thirty shooting modes along with movie sound and you have quite a winning combination.

The Budget Waterproof Digital Camera

The Pentax Optio W20 is perhaps the best budget buy in terms of waterproof digital cameras because you get some nice features for the relatively low price. It’s not as fancy as others – you cannot go diving with it – but at a waterproof depth of up to five feet, it is certainly good enough for amateur snorkelers and those people who need a waterproof camera option. At 7.0 mega pixels and great zooming capabilities, this Pentax is a great buy for families who wish to capture precious beach and swimming moments with their kids.

While there are plenty of waterproof digital cameras on the market, the three listed above are some of the best, based on how they would be used and your budget. Always research your camera options first before talking with a salesperson in a retail store. Being prepared throws the salespeople off balance and you just might walk away with a better deal than you anticipated!

Digital SLR cameras are becoming very popular today and many photographers use them because of the high quality images that they can produce. These cameras make an ideal choice for those wanting to use SLR technology to create excellent photographic results. Cameras such as Canon Rebel or the Nikon F6 have resolutions as much as 8 mega pixels making quality a certainty.

Expect to pay more for digital SLR cameras because many have starting prices from around five thousand dollars, which can be quite expensive for the average user. The Canon and Nikon are producing cheaper digital SLR cameras with prices in the range of a thousand dollars without any additional lenses.

Whatever the cost, digital SLR cameras help photographers to come up with a great final product. The quality is much better than what you would normally get with point and shoot digital cameras and given the excellence of SLR’s, you are assured of better colors and contrast.

You can be sure that the digital SLR cameras are very versatile and they provide you with lots of flexibility which is reflected in the higher quality photos. You can choose from a number of big brand names that offer cameras with wide angle shooting and also telephoto images.

Though you may be tempted to buy a digital SLR camera, you must first decide on how you intend to use it, because it is not necessary to have one if you want to shoot portraits, or take photos at weddings for example. Digital SLR cameras are excellent for those who want to improve their photography skills.

Once you have decided to go for a digital SLR camera, you need to research various models to find the one that fits your budget and needs. Reading reviews is a useful method to narrow down your choices. The digital SLR camera that you ultimately choose will not disappoint you. You will be able to produce excellent results and demonstrate photographic achievements in which to be proud of.
